Are you the kind of people who doesn’t like to make the bed in the morning? I used to be a part of those people. I share with you 5 reasons to include making the bed to your daily life.
Hello Lagom Lifer!
In today’s post I want to talk about a habit that I think it will help you a lot: making the bed in the morning… and I know, you may consider it insignificant or you just don’t like or want to do it. I used to skip making my bed every day. There are tons of excuses: “I’m always on a hurry “, “I don’t have time for that”, “I’m lazy”, “¿what for making the bed in the morning if I’m going to unmake at night anyway?”, et cetera.
I had a time when I was going through a mental and emotional mess, so I decided to visit a psichologist. The first thing she recommended me was to create the habit of making my bed every morning. At first, I did not see how making my bed was going to help me, but it turned our it really did. I leave you with the 5 reasons I keep doing my bed every single morning:
1.- It helps to develope new other habits.
We all have something about us that we want to change: quit smoking, lose weight, read more, etc. Developing a new habit may be difficult in the beginning, but once you have developed a new habit, it is much easier to create new ones. Making bed in the morning is an easy task and it may lead you to new habits.
2.- You get a feeling of accomplishment.
This point has much to do with the previous one. Whe I started with this new habit, I begun to feel I was accomplishing a goal, I felt like I could do anything I wanted to do. This feeling helped me to set new goals and actually meet them.
3.- Higher mental clarity.
As I said in the beginning of this post, I went through tima of mental and emotional mess: I did not have a clue of what I want to do with my life and I did not have any goals. When I started doing this habit, I realized I had a higher mental clarity and I was taking better decisions.
I believe that our outer space is a reflection of our inner thoughts and emotions. If you have a mess internally, you will reflect that in the places you live and work. By setting in order your physical space (even something so insignificant as making your bed every morning), you oblige yourself to organise your thoughts and emotions.
4.- The room looks cleaner and cozier.
By making my bed every morning, my bedroom looks more organised and cleaner. Moreover, I feel much more comfortable and I feel at ease.
5.- It makes you remember that the little things matter.
Making your bed in the morning seems something insignificant. However, the littlest things or tasks do matter: the big achivements in life are reached by little actions every day. When I make my bed, I remind myself this and that leads me to avoid procrastination or put off those little tasks and actions.
