Being a great source of antioxidants, turmeric helps to prevent cancer and fight the free radicals, the tumors and the mutations of cells. It has been proved that the regular consumption of turmeric prevents cancer of colon (4) and it avoids tumor cells proliferation (5).

A study was carried out on lab mice, which were inoculated with tumor cell aggregates. A group of the mice was treated with curcumin, the active agent of turmeric. The volume and the evolution of the tumor aggregates were tracked. After 28 days of treatment, the group of mice trated with curcumin showed 45.8 % inhibition of the tumor aggregates than the other group (6).

The study showed that turmeric lowers the growth of cancer cells by supressing the angiogenesis, which is a fundamental step in the transition of benign tumors to a malignant one”.

The individuals were divided into 2 groups. One of the groups was treated with placebo capsules (this means the pills did not contain any kind of drug), whilst the second group was treated with turmeric.

16.4 % of the individuals of the first group (treated with placebo capsules) developed diabetes type 2; whilst the second group (treated with turmeric), no one developed diabetes (8).
