Hello Lagom Lifer!
Christmas is getting closer and closer and I was wondering how a ‘Lagom Christmas‘ would be like (this would be my first ‘Lagom Christmas‘); if you don’t know what Lagom is, you should check out my previous post “Lagom, what it means and how it helped me out”.
I came up with these ideas on how to celebrate a ‘Lagom Christmas‘, here they are:
Christmas gifts shouldn’t be all material stuff.
It is always really hard for me to pick the right christmas gift. I felt a pressure that the gift should be big, special and a material thing. But I’ve been thinking lately that I could pick another kind of gifts… what about great memories? When I usually think about the gifts I have received in the past, I don’t usually remember the thing I was given but how I felt and how I was given that gift. This year I had one of my best birthdays parties ever. My best girl-friend made up a surprise party for me in my favorite italian restaurant in Guadalajara. When I got there, I was shocked to see all my friends and family there, it is a memory I could never forget.
I think christmas gifts should not be all material stuff, what about a material gift and something else they will remember with fond? We could write a letter, make them a video or anything else you come across in your mind, take them to a concert or the zoo or anyplace that person loves… the key point here is to create great memories that they will remember with love. There are millions of ways to demonstrate our love, we just have to let our imagination and creativity run wild.
Eat less, chew more.
As a swedish proverb states: eat less, chew more. I must admit this is quite hard for me, I allow myself to eat a little more during christmas and new year’s time. I am trying to listen to my body and eat only when I am indeed hungry.
Sing christmas songs.
Christmas songs are really beautiful. I’m not used to listen very often to christmas songs, but some of them do remind me when I was a child, they take me back to that time when I did believe in Santa Claus and I used to long for opening up my gifts. Besides, singing makes me happy and I sing all the time (even at work lol).
Write a letter.
Since we have Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp and many more social networks we don’t usually write letters to our family and friends. I think that writing a letter, putting on paper your handwriting is something magical… it’s like you’re indeed putting your best wishes and love on paper and people can receive that energy from you as they read the words.
If you’re like me and it’s hard to express your feelings and thoughts out of your mouth, then writing a letter is an easier way to say to our family and friends we love them and we wish them the best.
Do something special with your family.
What about going to the theater or the movies with your family? Or anything else you enjoy doing with them. Most part of the year we are focus on our job, on getting fit, on our social network, on our school… Christmas is a great opportunity to spend more time with our family, to be fully with them at 100%. So turn off your cell phone, unplug yourself from work and enjoy your time with your family.
Do a thank list.
I’m a believer that being grateful for the good things does attract more of the good stuff into our lives and christmas is a good time to ponder all the good things that happened to me this year and be thankful for. If you do follow a religion, say catholicism, you can go to church or read the bible or whatever way to express your gratitude.
Lagom Lifer, do you have more ideas? I would love to hear back from you what a Lagom Christmas would be like and…
As always, thank for visiting and reading!
